Personal Navigation Equipment:


The following equipment is essential for your navigation training:
  • Collins Ultimate Navigation Handbook
  • Map & Compass
    • Recommended Silva Expedition Compass;
    • Any compass with a long (10cm) base plate with be sufficient;
    • You will be told which maps to bring when you book training, based on location.
  • Map Case
  • Notepad and Pen
  • Pencil, Eraser and Small Ruler for Route Planning
  • Head torch for night navigation (Silver and Gold Awards only)

   


Navigation Training and Assessment Equipment Packing List:

Based on the individual requirements for each training or assessment session, we recommend you that bring with you the following equipment to ensure that your days out learning and practising your new navigation skills can be enjoyed, no matter what the weather.  Remember, poor visibility navigation forms part of the objectives for the Navigator Awards and you must be prepared to operate in a variety of inclemental weather conditions.

Prior to the start of any navigation training, you will be sent a set of 'Joining Instructions'; this will include details of where your training will take place and what specific equipment to bring for the duration of training.
  • Day Rucksack (30L)
  • Water Bottle or Camelbak (Min. 500ml)
  • Flask or Hot Drink Container for Cold Weather
  • Walking Poles (Recommended, but Optional)
  • Clothing:
    • Outdoor Top and Walking Trousers for nice weather (It does happen occasionally)
    • Good Walking Boots and Socks
    • Full set of Waterproofs, including Gloves and Hat (Gore-Tex Pro-shell recommended)
    • Warm (Fleece) Layers or Down Jacket for cold weather
    • Sun Protection
  • Other Equipment:
    • Group or Stingray Shelter in bad weather
    • Head Torch & Spare Batteries for night navigation
    • Personal First Aid Kit
    • Personal Medication if required
    • Camera (Optional)
